Alright, well let's do this gonna be short, sweet. And to the point. Okay, maybe you know why today is today's Blue Monday. And we all need to quickly listen and then go back in a ball. Because we got no money. Christmas was was long ago. We are so sad today. Here we were laughing so hard. Because we're defying Blue Monday.
Melissa Landry 1:47
Wait a minute, what was it? It was your in between paychecks? Yep. Christmas was a long time ago. What was the other thing?
Dalina Soto 1:52
It's like, Oh, crap, man, where we're supposed to be out. Why do we say this? Well, whatever, whatever. It doesn't matter. You got to figure it out. Yeah. But it's like a it's an equation. Remember, of like, all the things that have gone wrong up until today. So it makes you like, really, really sad. So today, we're going to talk about like, the top five things that you're going to start hearing from today, moving forward, that they're going to try to sell you all these like scams and they're just gonna be coming out of the woodwork like your ads, everything. They're just boom, gonna hit you with them. And we're gonna start debunking them. I'm going to start with like, my two favorite things to debunk, because it's all around diarrhea. But we're going to talk about because now these ads are going to start popping up. Like hey, you want to achieve your goals? Why don't you try this detox tea? Right? So we need to talk about how these teas work. Right? We can't argue that you might lose a few pounds. How can't you you're about to be on the toilet for a few hours.
Melissa Landry 3:01
Because of like, the ingredient like when you're in the hospital and you get constipated. There's an ingredient they give you that as like. Okay, I can't remember we have it's catalase. And that's that's like I think like the little drip loops inside these t's to like get people to lose their bid.
Dalina Soto 3:21
Yeah, they do. They add these things. They're not healthy at all. They dehydrate you so of course, like you're not only are you pooping, but you're literally excreting all of your water along the way your body's like get this crap out of me
Melissa Landry 3:36
and the Kardashians and everyone who's promoting it. Sure as hell ain't using the seats. They got their moguls they got busy day. They can't.
Dalina Soto 3:44
They can't be on the toilet all day. Exactly. And it's ridiculous. Like, you don't need to detox. I know that like a lot of people like your kidneys do it or your liver does it and like it's true. But like, even if that was the case, like if you had toxins inside your body, you wouldn't just be walking around willy nilly, like you would have some severe symptoms. You know what I mean? Like, your body would be sending you signals like there's legit toxins. We got to do something about it. The lock
Melissa Landry 4:11
so the first one you love to debug his detox teas or watch out for detox teas? We're gonna say Not today. Not doesn't work could make me sick. Not okay, that would
Dalina Soto 4:23
like I would you know what I want to bulk in weight loss pills on here too. Okay, right. Yeah, that wasn't on my list, but I'm going to take the last one out. So don't worry about the last one. Let's talk about weight loss pills. Because I feel like they're sneaky and Okay, so I want to say the story and you told me a few like remember this time of our lives because this happened while we were in college. But remember when that like big weight loss pill was approved by the FDA like probably yet? No, no Fanfan the other one, the one that made you poop it started with a it made you poop like people had to worry about First Oh, oh gosh, no, I can't remember the name. Because this one I didn't plan for this one. I think this came to me. Ally, Ally. Oh, yeah, number ally. Yep. I like the logo. Yeah. Remember the the side effect was like you will poop that and so like you might want to wear a diaper like Pardon? Pardon me, because what it did was that it made you bypass absorbing fat. So fat is a liquid. And so it doesn't go to your like kidneys and urinary tract fat goes into your small intestine. And so when you don't, your enzymes are not working to break it down, it stays a liquid like it doesn't solidify it and put it in your poop. And so therefore, you actually end up having anal leakage. That's what the warning sign said,on the President's aggressive language.
Melissa Landry 5:52
It is worth noting this stuff's disordered. And it's being sold as if it is a like, oh, just take an Advil like, this is not this is not nothing, no types of interventions. So no.
Dalina Soto 6:06
So much damage to your insides. You're worried about detoxing, some toxins, that's not really there. These things are actually causing havoc to your GI tract, right? What does not okay, and so, you know, if the warning label says anal leakage, wear a diaper like run, run far away. I got taken off the market, right. I don't even think I see it. I've never seen it before. Like it was it got approved and it got disapproved.
Melissa Landry 6:33
It'll be interesting to see what happens because like Instagram, allegedly tried to block the advertisement of Fox tees and stuff. So I'm hoping this one's a little bit less available. But that doesn't mean like retargeted ads and your browser like, especially this time of year, just remember, like, you might even just look at that somebody's like, oh, that's bullshit. No, no, that's not real.
Dalina Soto 6:55
Not today. Not today. Okay, so the flat tummy teas. So these, I'm sorry, flat time lollipops, these are a little different because they're technically not like a laxative. They're like an appetite suppressant. Okay, so the idea is that if you're not eating that, you I guess, your tummy is going to be flat. And that is like, think about it's like so weird. Like, how is it that you could just like eat a lollipop? And magically you're going to have a flat? Like a flat tummy? Like, I'm just trying to put into words.
Melissa Landry 7:34
Yeah. Like yeah, like what is the mechanism? Like, thinking and like, what are the what are the ingredients?
Dalina Soto 7:43
I don't know what the ingredients are probably some like high dose of artificial sugars and flavors, because they got to make it taste good.
Melissa Landry 7:52
I pulled it up. We're just like you just pulled it up. It's just sugar syrup. Syrup extracts. Yeah. Well, now what's this satire real saffron extras crocus to to this. I never learned anything anywhere along the way about this in our training,
Dalina Soto 8:08
but it's literally an appetite suppressant. So it's, the idea is that you're not going to get hungry, right, and then your stomach is going to be flatter because you're not going to eat,
Melissa Landry 8:19
which is also silly because body diversity exists. So let's say you're not eating and you do lose weight. There are women out there who will tell you that may or may not go from your tummy area like Nope, this idea that we can like hone in on certain parts to create whatever the thin ideal is right? The body ideals that we have is also ridiculous. So look at $89 for the shake that they offer. And
Dalina Soto 8:43
the worst part is is that they put it in this like fun lollipop form that like children. Oh, gross. That's the worst part to me as a mother. Yeah, that like I can't say that my kids not going to see a lollipop and not want it. Right. You know what I mean? Like without knowing that it's a flat tummy.
Melissa Landry 9:02
It's literally like the trope and like that the bad man's luring children to a van is like one allele. Like this is just a key written all over it. I'm not the flat tummy lollipop.
Dalina Soto 9:13
No. So say no to flat tummy lollipops, say no to pooping your pants. And then we got to talk about a weight loss pills. And then we got to talk about carbs because they're gonna it's gonna make a comeback right now with like, cut all carbs, like detox your body, because that's another word that they use a lot around like carbohydrates and sugar, like detox, right? Like, I need to put away sugar. My body's addicted to it. And I'm gonna like, you know, I need to like get rid of it. And I just want to, I just want to point out that like, I saw this meme a few days ago that had me in stitches rolling. It's from Lincoln nutrition, and she posted a picture of like a person in a car and it was like ketosis. And then she posted like something at the bottom and it's like the car on like a flatbed being pulled and it's like gluconeogenesis. And that's a nice joke for for the inside nutrition crew. There say that you're gonna cut sugar, you're going to cut carbs, and that your body is going to detox and you're going to lose all these weight and you're not going to ever need sugar again, because your body's going to be in ketosis. Instead of using sugar, it's going to use ketones, but the fact of the matter is that your body's still using sugar or gonna make sugar it will make sugar from non sugar from non sugar foods right because we have something called gluconeogenesis that is how important sugar glucose is to our body that we can literally create it right from protein right like if you believe in God if you believe in evolution if you believe in create whatever it is that you believe in our body is so freakin smart that it has a whole unpowered metabolic pathway to create glucose,
Melissa Landry 11:08
oh my god, probably preach. I'm signing up for this gospel. Passionate today.
Dalina Soto 11:14
Like I'm still like thinking about this meme dying laughing because nobody gets it but us.
Melissa Landry 11:19
lol get enough ketones in your blood, you go into acidosis and the toxic states, like most people cannot restrict enough by the way to get to that point because the body the body overrides. But yeah, you're right that, you know, I think this is where we have like 30 day challenges come up in January a lot like, okay, let's cut out all white carbs or, you know, whatever it is know that the the philosophy behind this, it's not sound and it's not, it's not, you're better off connecting with your body and learning how to trust
Dalina Soto 11:52
and signals. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of medical providers fall for this because they didn't go to school, like we did to know these metabolic pathways that come into play to make sure that this doesn't happen. They throw around a lot of like sciency words, but like, all they care about is the weight loss that we can't argue, will probably happen because your body is in somewhat of a starvation mode. And it's literally in fight or flight because it's creating glucose from a protein. So it's like, it doesn't matter that your body's like falling apart from the inside, and you're eating yourself from the inside basically, as long as you're like losing weight, right? Which is and that's unfortunate, because we know you and I personally know a few even dietitians that are like all about this and it's like did you not take a metabolic class? Or did you just decide to forget that because you're so fat phobic and only care about weight loss and not about the person's health. That's why keto is the worst in my opinion. All of them,
Melissa Landry 12:52
I just get to there's a word like, like reductionist like people get so reduced down to like, the sugars they forget the bigger picture of everything else going on. Yeah, we Oh, and you know,
Dalina Soto 13:03
so anyway, your carbs, y'all because your body needs them. And if you want to discuss carbohydrates with a dietitian or one of us we can definitely talk about the different kinds and how to continue to incorporate them into your everyday but don't fall for the trap. Y'all don't fall for the trap. Okay, I don't got a lot of time because like this is a short episode and we're just kidding you with the facts. Okay, no meals after 6pm I wasn't you know, aware that your body's metabolism just stopped working after 6pm and that your stomach shut down like a restaurant like I think that we need to like really nip this one because a lot of people so guilty about this too late Yeah.
Melissa Landry 13:40
That there's some weird stuff going on. After you finish eating after after seven like no, your body
Dalina Soto 13:46
even if you go to sleep, your metabolism still working? Yeah, it doesn't stop after the need of energy.
Melissa Landry 13:55
In the fullness episode to like, there might be reasons why you person eating after a certain hour doesn't serve you because some people have reflux. Some people, you know, kind of makes it difficult to fall asleep. But you can define that for yourself. You don't need to set an arbitrary rule of like, after six equals bad. That's what triggers a lot of binges. Because people say, well, I already did it. So might as well.
Dalina Soto 14:18
It's that, you know, all or nothing mentality. So these are like the things that like are gonna start creeping up in the form of like, diet culture. So like, they might not even call it no meals after 6pm. They might call it intermittent fasting. Right? They might call it fasting in general, right? Last night, I text Melissa. Free shot of an article. I was like, it was sarcastic. It was so sarcastic and I was like, you know, just like modest weight loss occurs. And it's like modest. They literally use the word modest but like what they ask people to do to get this modest weight loss was brutal. cuz I don't even want to say it out loud.
Melissa Landry 15:01
It's a really good tip to like, okay, maybe you're looking at something like that could be cool. Maybe I want to try to double click on it like, do they have a study how people are in that study? When they say it helps you lose weight? How much weight we talked us with the new episode last week, like, know what you're getting into guys like you've done it a million. Know what you're getting into before jumping back in. And if it's hard for you to break the pattern, get some support with that thing. Pause and redirect it.
Dalina Soto 15:30
Yeah. Yeah. So this was like your quick tidbits of like Blue Monday, you already said so we hope that we like made you laugh a little bit today. Love you. We don't want to spend too much time you know, on the screen, take some time for yourself. Listen to our voices catch up on the podcast, go back and re listen to some episodes if you need to. But like, take it slow today. Maybe stay off Instagram and its ads. You know, just like do some self care. Don't fall for the Blue Monday. So that was today's episode. Melissa, quick, short. I love it. I love it.
Melissa Landry 16:05
It was really speaking about this stuff. I know you're like you always err on the nose with these trends.
Dalina Soto 16:10
Well, you I also want to emphasize that this is like the kind of person that I am clicking to the point I'm a yapper. But like sometimes I just gotta hit you with the straight back.
Melissa Landry 16:20
Okay, you got you heard it here. So four things we're looking out for and we will add five I'm sorry, five things we're looking for. And we will see you next week. Be sure to leave a review wherever you found this podcast so we can continue to find and support women like you looking for some buddies to sit with them as they heal their relationship with food. Thanks for being here and for being who you
Dalina Soto 16:42
are. Peace, love and break the diet cycle.
